CAF Headquarters to Remain in Egypt for Next 10 Years

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, stressed that the ratification of Parliament headed by Dr. Ali Abdel-Al during the plenary session on Monday regarding the approval of the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) headquarters to remain in Egypt proves that the state will forever have a strong role which it intends to preserve within the continent.

Dr. Sobhi added that the new agreement comes as a substitute for the previous headquarters agreement that was concluded in November 2007 between the two parties, especially since after the previous agreement expired, and the CAF submitted a request to sign a new headquarters agreement.

The agreement came in order to preserve the ongoing improvements within the African Federation.

Dr. Sobhi played a major role in concluding an agreement to renew Egypt’s hosting of of the headquarters for a period of 10 years, after a case of confusion and controversy that lasted for many months, given the desire of the African Union officials to move the headquarters from Egypt.

The Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, with the support of the Egyptian state, made went through several endeavors and made his point known during a parliament assembly in 2019 , stressing the need for the headquarters to remain in Egypt.

The minister added that the Egyptian state provided all means of comfort to the African Union officials for the headquarters to not be moved elsewhere.
