The Confederation of African Football praised Egypt’s national team for what it described as a strong return to its traditional continental stature after securing a place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, currently being held in Morocco. The team, led by head coach Hossam Hassan, advanced after a deserved 3–1 victory over Benin following extra time in the round of 16.

In a report published on its official website, Confederation of African Football said Egypt sent a clear message to its rivals by returning to the heart of continental competition. The victory, CAF noted, carried significant meaning, as it restored confidence, ended Egypt’s recent struggles in the round of 16, and renewed hopes of lifting the African title for an eighth time.

CAF highlighted Egypt’s assertive performance against Benin, saying the team imposed its style from the outset through collective cohesion and individual quality. Special praise was given to Mohamed Salah, who led the attack with experience and composure, while the squad showed greater maturity in managing key moments, particularly during extra time. CAF also pointed to the decisive role played by the coaching staff and the players’ experience in tipping the balance in Egypt’s favor.

The African football body said Egypt demonstrated strong mental and tactical readiness, adding that the team rediscovered its historic identity in major tournaments. According to CAF, the Pharaohs once again proved their ability to handle pressure and win difficult matches at crucial moments.

Egypt’s ambitions in this edition of the tournament remain clear, with the team aiming to go as far as possible and reclaim the continental crown. CAF noted that such ambitions are consistent with the legacy of Africa’s most successful national team, which has won the tournament seven times and possesses the experience and character to continue progressing.
