Sajid Javid, the British Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, said that "Omicron" which showed its ability to spread, is the fastest among all other mutations.
"The government's decision to impose new restrictions is aimed at slowing the spread of Omicron. I hope most people understand that by taking decisive action immediately, which we can avoid later. Javid said, expressing the hope that "we don’t have to take new measures in January."
He stressed that the plan "B" announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday "will slow the spread of Omicron. This plan has been detailed so that that its impact on the hospitality sectors is small."
He added: "It is likely this new mutation affects the effectiveness of vaccines, but the booster doses provide some protection. These new procedures will give time for people to get booster doses."
He reiterates his warning of "the possibility of reaching one million infections of Omicron by the end of this December.
