British playwright Tom Stoppard passed away at the age of 88, his agency United Agents announced on Saturday.
He passed away peacefully at his home in Dorset, surrounded by his family.
Stoppard enjoyed an extraordinary career across theatre, film, and radio, marked by intellectual depth and a readiness to explore a wide range of subjects.
His intricately crafted plays were known for their dense characters and meticulous research.
Among his many honors, he won an Academy Award for co-writing the screenplay of the 1998 film Shakespeare in Love, and he holds a record five Tony Awards for Best Play.
In 1997, he was knighted in recognition of his contributions to British theatre.
