The British government is planning to set up a council on Islamophobia, and is preparing to appoint a former Conservative minister to lead it, according to the Telegraph.
According to the Telegraph, sources confirmed that the 16-member council will help advise on the development of an official government definition of discrimination against Muslims, and will advise ministers on tackling Islamophobia.
The newspaper said that Dominic Grieve, the former Conservative attorney general and a prominent Remain supporter, has been put forward to head the council within Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner’s Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) as a politician who has been actively involved in tackling Islamophobia.
