The Brazilian government announced that it would sink an old aircraft carrier in the Atlantic Ocean that had been sailing aimlessly for 5 months and was not accepted by any port because of the toxic substances it carried, according to the Brazilian newspaper "Folha de Sao Paulo".
The newspaper pointed out that the rickety aircraft carrier bearing the name "Sao Paulo" and previously served in the French Navy under the name Foch, will be sunk in Brazilian territorial waters 350 km off the coast, at a point in the Atlantic Ocean at a depth of 5000 meters, at a distance from the regions.
In addition, the Brazilian navy explained that the company responsible for the ship did not take the necessary measures to obtain permission to tow it to the port, with the aim of repairing the severe damage that threatens its ability to remain afloat.
The aircraft carrier was built in France in 1963, has a length of 266 meters, and has the capacity to accommodate 1,300 crew members and transport 30 combat bombers.
