Brazilian police evacuated a protest camp housing supporters of defeated president Jair Bolsonaro outside the headquarters of the Armed Forces General Command in Brasilia on Monday and temporarily detained around 1,500 people.
The police raid came, a day after extremist supporters of former far-right President Bolsonaro stormed key government buildings in the capital city of the country.
Thousands of rioters attacked Congress, the Supreme Court, and the presidential palace on Sunday.
The rioters refuse to acknowledge Bolsonaro's defeat against the leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who has sworn in as president a week ago.
Bolsonaro, who currently resides in Florida, USA, has not issued any public statement acknowledging his loss in the elections.
Later on Monday, Bolsonaro tweeted that he had been hospitalized in Orlando, Florida.
The Brazilian newspaper "O Globo" quoted him as saying that he was suffering from severe stomach pain.
After the violence broke out, Brazil's Supreme Court ordered the evacuation of protesters' camps, including a large one in front of the army's general headquarters, within 24 hours, setting in motion an extensive police operation, news site G1 reported.
