Brazil has decided to allocate $10 billion to assist in rescue and reconstruction efforts in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which has been devastated by massive floods resulting from heavy rainfall.
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Radio today, Friday, the death toll from the floods has risen to 107 people, with more than 130 others still missing.
It was noted that floodwaters have submerged vast areas of the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital, and the surrounding towns.
Additionally, the floods have caused power outages and cut off clean water for several days for tens of thousands of people.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has visited the flood-affected areas several times and pledged significant support for rescue and reconstruction efforts.
