U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel on Sunday as part of Washington's intensive diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, aimed at ending the ongoing war in the region that has persisted for over 10 months.
This marks Blinken's tenth visit to the region since the war began in October of last year, coming just days after the United States proposed solutions to the Gaza crisis, which it, along with mediators Qatar and Egypt, believes could bridge the gaps between the warring parties.
U.S. officials have expressed new optimism about the possibility of reaching an agreement, but they also cautioned that much work remains to be done.
Blinken is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials during his visit to Israel.
