Biden’s team will consider several options to punish Russia for its suspected role in the unprecedented hacking of U.S. government agencies and companies once he takes office, according to News reportes issued on Sunday. The attackers infiltrated over 40 federal agencies, including the departments of Treasury, Energy and Commerce, as well as government contractors.

Meanwhile, the officials and cybersecurity professionals across the US are still struggling to determine the scale of the hacking campaign, which managed to breach computer networks using enterprise management network software made by the Texas-based IT company SolarWinds.

On other hand, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo explained that Russia consistently tries to penetrate American servers, but quickly pivoted to threats from China and North Korea, Pompeo reported in an a radio interview Monday.

In contrast, the U.S. Cyber Command has also taken more proactive measures, engaging in what officials describe as hunt forward operations designed to detect cyber threats in other countries before they reach their intended target.

Meanwhile, David Simon the cybersecurity expert and former Defense Department special counsel, explained that there must be consequences for those responsible for attacks and the Trump administration has fallen far short in holding the Kremlin accountable.

Noteworthy, Biden reported in an interview broadcast on CBS on Thursday when asked about how he would deal with the Russian-led hack. He vowed to impose financial repercussions on inpiduals as well as entities.
