Biden to Nominate Hero Mustafa Garg as US Ambassador to Egypt

White House said on Wednesday that US President Joe Biden intends to nominate diplomat Hero Mustafa Garg as US ambassador to Egypt, according to Reuters news agency.

The candidate held several diplomatic positions in the US government, including; an advisor to former Vice President Joe Biden for Middle East affairs, and deputy director of the Afghanistan office in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She also worked at the US Embassy in Portugal and a political advisor to the embassy in New Delhi, India.

Hero Mustafa was born in the Erbil governorate in the Kurdistan region of Iraq in 1973. She spent two years of her childhood in a refugee camp, and in 1976 her family was granted asylum in the United States (US), according to Iraqi Kurdish media.

Garg is a mother of two girls. She holds a bachelor's degree from George Washington University and a master's degree from Princeton University. She is fluent in several languages: Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, Greek, Hindi, and Portuguese.
