US President Joe Biden gave his first major foreign policy speech On Thursday during a visit to the State Department where he indicated he would place diplomacy at the center of US foreign policy.
"America is back," Biden told State Department staff who had assembled in person and virtually to hear him speak ahead of his address. "Diplomacy is back. You are the center of all that I intend to do. You are the heart of it." he added.
He spoke of "restoring America's role in the world" and returning values to the center of US foreign policy, according to White House press secretary Jane Psaki.
"We believe we have plenty of space to be able to find the types of sanctions targets necessary to sharpen the choice for the Burmese military," Sullivan said.
"The White House is also considering an executive order on the issue," he said.
"On U.S. force deployments, Biden will announce that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will lead a review of where U.S. forces are around the world," Sullivan said.
"Biden will also put a hold on a Trump-era decision to move U.S. troops out of Germany during the review," he added.
