US President Joe Biden has announced his intention to visit the Hawaiian Islands to assess the progress of firefighting operations on the island of Maui, as soon as the opportunity arises.

Biden made this announcement during a speech in Wisconsin on Tuesday, stating, "My wife Jill and I are going to travel to Hawaii as soon as we can.”

He further mentioned that he had discussed this matter with Hawaii's Governor, Josh Green.

Biden emphasized that he does not want to hinder the work of local authorities but rather wants to make sure they have everything they need.

Biden acknowledged that wildfires are still raging in Hawaii, claiming the lives of 99 individuals.

This marks the largest wildfire disaster in over 100 years. He affirmed that he assured Hawaii's Governor that "the state will get all that is necessary from the federal government" for reconstruction and addressing the aftermath of the fires.

It's worth noting that the wildfires ignited on the island of Maui on August 9th and rapidly spread due to strong winds.

They completely devastated the tourist city of Lahaina and displaced at least 4,500 people.
