New US President Joe Biden made the first phone call since taking office with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, as the two officials discussed the files of Iran, Afghanistan, the Coronavirus pandemic and climate change.
The German chancellor and the US president talked about foreign policy issues, especially regarding Afghanistan and Iran, they also discussed policies in the fields of trade and climate.
Merkel and Biden agreed that "the Covid-19 pandemic can only be defeated through closer international cooperation.
Merkel also confirmed "Germany's readiness to assume its responsibility for dealing with international missions in cooperation with European and Atlantic partners."
Merkel invited Biden to visit Germany as soon as the epidemiological situation allows to do so.
