U.S. President Joe Biden said French President Emmanuel Macron did not take his call Sunday night to congratulate him on his landslide re-election.

Biden revealed that he spoke with Macron’s staff instead as the French president partied at the Eiffel Tower, noting that he would try again Monday.

"I look forward to our continued close cooperation — including on supporting Ukraine, defending democracy, and countering climate change," the American leader wrote on Twitter.

“I feel good about the French election,” Biden said as he returned to DC from a weekend trip home to Delaware, according to a pool report. “I tried to talk to him last night. I spoke to his staff and he was at the Eiffel Tower having a good time. And I’m going to be talking to him today.”

In like manner, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Macron on his re-election and defeat of far-right candidate Marine Le Pen.

“I sincerely wish you every success in state affairs, as well as good health and wellbeing,” Putin wrote in his message issued by the Kremlin.
