U.S. President Joe Biden complimented German Chancellor Angela Merkel, on Friday, with sweet words on his Instagram following their unfruitful summit.
"As the first woman chancellor, Angela Merkel’s life is one of groundbreaking service to Germany and the world," Biden wrote on Instagram.

“Thank you, Angela, for your career of strong and principled leadership, for always speaking out for what is right, and for never failing to defend human dignity.”
The two leaders held their first summit together on Thursday, in which they agreed to disagree about a Russian pipeline project that Washington opposes.
Nevertheless, they vowed to stand together against aggression from Moscow and antidemocratic action from Beijing.
Transatlantic ties suffered under the tenure of former president Donald Trump, and both Merkel and Biden were eager to show the relationship was on the mend during their time together.
"I value the friendship," Merkel said in the Oval Office, highlighting America's role in building a free and democratic Germany after World War Two.
Notably, Merkel is the first European leader who visited the White House in the Biden administration.
