On Sunday, US President Joe Biden expressed during his interview with CBS News that China should expect “extreme competition” from the US.
The president expressed that didn't speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping since his inauguration, however, both leaders met each other when both served as vice presidents in their states.
Biden described his relationship with Jinping, “I know him pretty well."
He also expressed that the US won't deal with China's leader Xi Jinping as the previous administration describing, “He’s very bright. He’s very tough. He doesn’t have — and I don’t mean this as a criticism, just the reality — he doesn’t have a democratic ‘small D’ bone in his body.”
However, the new US administration could continue its policies regarding trade, the Taiwan crisis, human rights issues, and the South China Sea crisis that have angered Xi’s increasingly assertive government, Global News cited the Associated Press.
The president also highlighted that he will follow a new strategy with China focusing on “international rules of the road.”
