US President, Joe Biden, has called for prosecuting Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes committed in Ukraine.

Biden added that he plans to seek more sanctions against Moscow after reports of atrocities in Ukraine.

“You saw what happened to Bucha,” Biden told reporters, stressing that Putin was a “war criminal.”

Biden’s remarks to reporters came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Bucha, one of the towns around Kyiv where Ukrainian officials say the bodies of civilians have been found.

Zelensky described the Russian actions as “genocide” and called on the West to tighten sanctions against Russia.

Ukrainian Prosecutor-General Irina Venediktova said that the bodies of 410 civilians were found and collected from towns in the Kyiv region, which were recently recaptured by Russian forces.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Twitter that the European Union (EU) intends to send investigators to Ukraine to help local prosecutors “document war crimes.”
