U.S. officials said on Thursday that the Biden administration is considering offering an expedited visa path for vulnerable Afghans.

This would include women, politicians, journalists, and activists who may become targets of the Taliban.

In the same vein, President Joe Biden will offer today, Thursday, his most extensive comments to date about the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

A White House official said Biden would update the American people on the situation, noting that no major policy pronouncements were expected.

The Democratic president has been under pressure from reporters to give a more expansive explanation for his decision to withdraw.

He has previously stated that there were no immediate plans for complete troop withdrawal from the country.

“No. We’re on, we’re on track exactly as to where we expect to be,” he said.

Moreover, the White House announced last Friday that US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan will be completed by the “end of August”.

“We expect it to be completed by the end of August,” press secretary Jen Psaki said.
