German Bundestag member Roderich Kiesewetter stated that there are reports indicating German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's intention to visit Moscow ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections on February 23.
Kiesewetter, a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), wrote on his "X" account: "There is growing information suggesting that Chancellor Scholz will travel to Moscow before February 23, meaning he will meet with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin."
The magazine Der Spiegel previously reported that the CDU had obtained information suggesting that Scholz might soon visit Moscow in an attempt to boost the popularity of his Social Democratic Party (SPD) before the elections.
However, a source in the German government told TASS that the reports regarding the Chancellor's plans are "inaccurate."
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the magazine's report, stated that the Kremlin had not received any request for a visit from Scholz to Russia.
