Researchers have warned that a new outbreak of the Zika virus is very likely, and said that one mutation of the virus is enough to cause such a massive outbreak, according to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
The disease caused a global medical emergency in 2016, and thousands of babies were born with head injuries after their mothers contracted the virus during pregnancy.
American scientists say the world should be aware of the new mutant.
Laboratory experiments, which the scientific journal "Cell Reports" published a description of, indicate that the virus can be transmitted easily, which contributes to the emergence of new mutations.
Recent studies of infection say that these mutations may prove effective in the event of virus transmission, even in countries that have been immunized as a result of previous outbreaks of the Zika virus.
