FC Barcelona have officially announced their withdrawal from the European Super League project, informing both the company behind the competition and the clubs involved of their decision to step away from the controversial initiative.
In an official statement published on the club’s verified account on the social media platform X, Barcelona confirmed their exit from the proposed breakaway competition, which continues to be led by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.
The statement marks a decisive shift in the club’s stance after years of debate surrounding the project’s future.
The announcement comes on a busy day for the Catalan club, who are preparing to face Real Mallorca at 5:15 p.m. local time on Saturday in Matchday 23 of La Liga.
Barcelona currently sit top of the Spanish league table with 55 points, holding a narrow one-point lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid in an increasingly intense title race.
