Austria’s Climate and Energy Minister, Leonore Gewessler, has once again called on Germany to abolish its gas storage tax on natural gas supplies coming to Austria.
Speaking ahead of an EU energy ministers’ meeting in Brussels on Monday, Gewessler expressed confidence in finding a solution but indicated that the legal process remains open.
Germany had previously announced plans to end the tax at the beginning of the new year. However, upcoming elections and political changes in Germany could delay the tax's repeal.
Gewessler emphasized that the additional charges have raised the cost of gas in Austria, with the tax already contributing to an additional €60 million in expenses. She highlighted that these extra costs are ultimately borne by customers who rely on gas for home heating.
