On Monday, Austria announced reporting 11 cases of West Nile Fever for the first time for this year.
The Austrian authorities revealed the symptoms of the disease and a number of prevention protocols.
West Nile fever is transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Culex. It circulates between blood-sucking mosquitoes and birds. So, they are the main contractors of the virus.
However, humans and other mammals can also contract the disease.
The virus cannot be transmitted to other humans. However, It is spreading in Europe, especially in urban areas, researchers believe.
"However, the risk of contracting West Nile fever in Austria is still low," says AGES.
The infected groups can experience a flu-like illness with a sudden, high fever, muscle aches and headaches, gastrointestinal symptoms, possibly cold symptoms, skin spots and swelling of the lymph nodes.
There is no approved vaccine for humans.
