Austria announced new Covid restrictions, on Monday, after the end of the country's celebration of Christmas to fight the Omicron variant.

The government is imposing curfew strating from 10 P.M.

Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein said the situation is stable after the Christmas holidays but from today, new restrictions will be imposed on the restaurants and all gathering events.

In addition, Mückstein noted that the number of infections is expected to rise.

Austria recorded 1,550 new Coronavirus cases and 16 deaths were during the past 24 hours, according to the Health ministry.

In the same vein, thousands of Christmas Eve flights were canceled globally at the last minute because of the recent spike of Omicron cases.

The New York Times reported that United Airlines canceled at least 150 flights scheduled to leave dozens of airports on Friday — along with 44 more that were supposed to take off on Saturday, according to Flight Aware.

In like manner, dozens of flights were also canceled in Australia in the major cities of Sydney and Melbourne as coronavirus cases surged to their highest since the start of the pandemic.
