US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that the safety of 1.5 million Palestinian civilians in Rafah is a major priority for United States (US).
This came during Austin's meeting with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Galant, at the Pentagon.
US Secretary of State also added that protecting Palestinian civilians from harm is a moral and strategic necessity.
He warned that the number of civilian casualties in Gaza is very high and the amount of humanitarian aid is very small, stressing that Gaza is suffering a humanitarian catastrophe and the situation is becoming worse.
Furthermore, he underlined the need to immediately increase aid to avoid famine and expand aid by land, expressing his aspiration to discuss how human suffering in Gaza can be alleviated.
