The American University in Cairo (AUC), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the University of Ain Shams celebrated today, the opening of a center for vocational development at the Faculty of Commerce.
The newly inaugurated center is one of 20 others that will be established in 12 state universities across Egypt.
Those centers aim to recruit students to the vocational education to bridge in the gap in labor market and industry.
Cooperation between Ain Shams University and the AUC the field of vocational education started in 2014.
Ain Shams University then hosted two centers at the Faculty of Engineering and on the main campus through the ECDC.
The opening ceremony was attended by Nancy Fisher- Gormley, Acting Deputy Director of the US Agency for International Development in Egypt, Dr. Ashraf Hatem, Advisor to the AUC, Dr. Ahmed Tolba, Academic Vice President of AUC, and Dr. Nazmi Abdel Hamid, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development.
Dr Tollba said that "the AUC celebrates the 100th anniversary in Egypt."
He added that throughout a full century the AUC offered excellent education servicing Egypt.
“We are delighted to cooperate with Ain Shams University again in the field of vocational education and the opening of a new center for professional development in the Faculty of Commerce," said Dr. Tolba.
He went on to say that this cooperation comes after the success of the centers of developing vocational skills and employment at the Faculty of Engineering and on the main campus, which we contributed with the university in establishing them in 2014.
The three centers together will offer professional guidance services for a greater number of students to increase their ability to compete in the labor market.
The USAID should be thanked for its support to the university centers for vocational development in Egypt.
Dr. Nazmi Abdel Hamid, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development, said that the university is playing a leading role in adopting new models and methods to serve its students and society as a whole.
"The university builds on success of ECDC, as we have been proud of the fact that it has still sustainable, effective and influential role," Abdel Hamid said.
The Center of the Faculty of Engineering has provided various services to more than 11,000 students. The other center at the main headquarter has served more than 13,000 students in the main building of the university.
It hosted six employment exhibitions that offered hundreds of vacancies and training for thousands of students.
