At least 38 people were killed in a devastating road accident in southeastern Mexico, after a collision between a passenger bus and a truck, according to local authorities.
The Attorney General of Campeche, Jackson Velásquez, confirmed that 36 victims were aboard the bus, while the other two fatalities were in the truck.
The official death toll comes three days after the tragic incident, making it one of the deadliest road accidents in Mexico in recent years.
Authorities also reported that four more people were believed to have died based on information from their relatives, but their bodies have not yet been recovered.
In addition to the fatalities, nine people were injured in the crash. The transport company stated that the accident occurred at around 2:45 AM on Saturday, when a truck veered into the path of the bus traveling between Villa del Sol and Tecolutilla.
The tragedy has reignited concerns over road safety in Mexico, where highway accidents frequently result in heavy casualties due to poor infrastructure, reckless driving, and overloaded vehicles.
