A few hours ago, Both Armenia and Azerbaijan managed to reach a new ceasefire agreement after long rounds of talks between the two states.
The ceasefire in the Nagorno - Karabakh conflict zone will take effect tomorrow according to Armen Press.
The recently reached ceasefire agreement was pushed up by American efforts. According to CBS News, Armenia has accepted the US call for a humanitarian ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh while the Trump administration continued convincing Azerbaijan.
Assistant to the U.S. President for National Security Affairs Robert O’Brien expressed, “We spent all week-end trying to reach peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Armenia agreed to the ceasefire, Azerbaijan not yet. We are pushing them toward it,” O’Brien told CBS.
It is not the first ceasefire agreement reached between both states. Armenia and Azerbaijan had agreed to a ceasefire on October 10 and October 17, but the agreements were never observed by the Azerbaijani side, which violated the humanitarian ceasefire immediately after it entered into force.
