Argentina is grappling with a massive outbreak of dengue fever, poised to break previous records, exacerbating concerns across South America.

The region's higher temperatures and humidity have contributed to a surge in infections of this mosquito-borne disease.

With over 120,000 reported cases so far in the 2023-2024 season, the majority of which occurred in the past two months, the current outbreak far surpasses previous records, marking it as one of the worst seasons on record.

Latest government data reveals that Argentina has recorded 79 deaths from dengue fever in the current season.

Neighboring Brazil is also struggling as infections spread to previously unaffected areas. Most cases typically occur during the latter months of summer in the southern hemisphere, from February to May, when weather conditions are predominantly hot and humid.

However, this year has seen a higher number of infections earlier in the season.
