On Sunday, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Al-Asoumi, urged solidarity and economic solidarity among Arab countries in light of what he described as “the state of political and security instability that the world is going through at the present time”, in reference to the war in Ukraine. He also called for supporting the Arab countries that are affected by the war.
In a statement, Al-Soumi indicated that the current conditions “imposed unprecedented economic difficulties and challenges in various aspects, and they will have a direct impact on the living conditions of the Arab citizens, especially in some Arab countries with limited resources, which will directly affect them .”
He added that the current stage requires, more than ever, that there be “solidarity among the Arab countries, in the framework of which the Arab countries most affected by the current situations and crises are helped, in order to enhance their ability to confront these challenges and reduce as much as possible their effects on their citizens.”
He continued, “This solidarity will provide protection for these Arab countries from any negative consequences, especially since the whole world is currently living in the era of economic blocs, and there is no single country, regardless of its economic capabilities, capable of facing the economic crises experienced by the world.”
As a result of the fighting in Ukraine, the humanitarian crisis has worsened, with the number of refugees outside the country reaching 1.37 million people since February 24, according to the latest United Nations statistics.
