The General Secretariat (Media and Communication Sector) of the League of Arab States is organizing the ninth edition of the Arab Media Excellence Award under the theme "Arab Youth and New Media."

The prestigious award, held under the auspices of the League of Arab States and sponsored by the State of Kuwait, aims to spotlight outstanding media contributions across the Arab world. It comprises four categories: television productions, radio productions, journalism, and digital media.

Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, underscored the significance of participating in this edition, given its focus on a topic that directly impacts youth. He highlighted that new media has become an integral part of modern Arab societies, with social media platforms now indispensable in public life, particularly among young people, who constitute the most active users of these technologies.

Ambassador Khattabi further noted that this edition of the award seeks to illuminate the role of social media in raising youth awareness on societal issues, supporting comprehensive development, preserving national and cultural identity, and fostering a spirit of leadership and innovation.

Additionally, he stressed the profound influence of digital platforms in generating meaningful and purposeful media content that serves public interests. He also pointed out the Council of Arab Information Ministers' heightened focus on the proliferation of fake and misleading news, noting that its specialised bodies are currently formulating an Arab strategy for media and information literacy, which is expected to be presented at the Council's upcoming session in Baghdad.

The Arab Media Excellence Award carries monetary recognition and is open to accredited governmental and private media professionals and institutions, as well as Arab organisations and unions that hold observer status with the Council of Arab Information Ministers.

The award falls within the framework of Resolution 534, issued during the 53rd session held in Rabat on 21 June 2023, which aims to promote quality media, professional excellence, and capacity-building among Arab media practitioners. The resolution also encourages member states to ensure diversity in nominations, with a particular emphasis on engaging youth.

The General Secretariat (Media and Communication Sector) will continue to accept nominations until 30 April 2025, provided that the following criteria are met:

- The nominee must be of Arab nationality.

- The work must be in Arabic.

- The nominee must not have received an award from any other entity for the same work.

- The submitted work must have been published or broadcast through an Arab media institution or platform.

- The content must adhere to journalistic ethics, aligning with the Arab Media Code of Honour, and must not interfere in the internal affairs of member states, incite political disputes, or offend any societal component or prevailing beliefs.
