The Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League has emphasized the urgent need to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip. In a statement, he condemned the intensifying settlement crimes and actions undermining the Palestinian Authority, highlighting that the current priority is to stop the Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Speaking at an emergency meeting of the Arab League at the level of permanent delegates, he stressed the necessity of opening a political horizon that addresses the root causes of the conflict. This includes ending the occupation and realizing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In an alarming and still rising toll, the number of martyrs since the start of the Israeli offensive on Gaza on October 7th has exceeded 25,000, with more than 62,000 injuries, predominantly among women and children.

The Israeli air force's bombardment has destroyed entire residential blocks in Gaza, as part of a comprehensive policy of destruction pursued by the occupation in its ongoing aggression. The situation has left thousands of martyrs and injured yet to be recovered from under the rubble, compounded by continued bombing and hazardous field conditions. Gaza is currently under a stifling blockade, with severe restrictions on the entry of fuel and vital emergency aid needed to alleviate the catastrophic humanitarian conditions.

The Arab League's call for action reflects the growing concern over the escalating violence in Gaza and the urgent need for international intervention to ensure the safety and well-being of the Palestinian people. As the situation continues to deteriorate, the international community's role becomes ever more crucial in seeking a resolution to the conflict and providing immediate humanitarian assistance.
