The Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, in its extraordinary meeting held in Cairo on Monday, chaired by Egypt, issued a decisive declaration with regard to Palestine.

The ministers affirmed that the Arab countries, as a group under the umbrella of the Arab League, defend common interests and Arab national security amid various interactions and developments in the international arena, in a way that prevents pressures and interventions from regional and international powers to achieve the agendas and interests of those forces at the expense of Arab interests.

The Arab States seek to preserve the concept and logic of the state, in full to the unity of peoples, away from the logic of pision within Arab societies, and to emphasize the necessity of an effective collective Arab role in approaching regional challenges and efforts to resolve the crises plaguing the region.

The Council reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian issue to the Arab countries and reaffirmed the commitment of all Arab states to support the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, chief among them self-determination, the right of return, and the establishment of an independent, fully sovereign Palestinian state, within the borders of June 4, 1967, with its capital East Jerusalem.

The Arab FMs stressed the need to find a just solution to the Palestinian refugee issue in accordance with United Nations General Assembly Resolution 194.

They affirmed the Arab countries ’adherence to the two-state solution, which embodies the independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the basis of international law, the relevant international legitimacy decisions, the Arab Peace Initiative adopted in 2002 with all its components, and the principle of land for peace.

The ministers considered this solution the only way to achieve just and lasting peace in The Middle East region and asking the Israeli side to respond to the Arab Peace Initiative.
