The Arab Parliament (AP) speaker, Hon. Mr. Adel Bin AbdulRahman Al-Asoomi held talks with Sitara Ayaz, Secretary-General of the International Parliamentarians Congress (IPC).
They discussed ways to implement the existing partnership with the AP in order to activate the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the defence of developing countries’ issues, in a manner that serves the interests of the peoples of the Arab and Islamic worlds.
It is worth mentioning that the IPC was established in August 2019, proposed by the President of the Senate of Pakistan, and aims at establishing a platform for cooperation and exchange of parliamentary experience and enhancing the role of parliamentarians in resolving regional and global issues, its membership brings together parliamentarians from different countries of the world to achieve cooperation and mutual understanding on various international issues.
The President of the AP signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the IPC during his visit at the head of a parliamentary delegation to the Republic of Pakistan last August.
From her side, the Secretary-General of the IPC, expressed her keenness for the major role the AP should play in activating the role of the organization, notably as it represents the Arab people in 22 Arab States, which consists a parliamentary value added to the IPC’s work and enhances its ability to achieve its objectives.
AlAsoomi emphasized that the membership of the AP in the IPC, together with a large number of parliamentarians from around the world, would strengthen the ability of the AP to mobilize the necessary regional and international support for the defence of Arab issues and prior coordinate thereon in other regional and international parliamentary fora.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Dr. AbdelKrim Korichi, Deputy Chairman of the AP’s Committee on Foreign and Political Affairs and National Security.
