The Secretary-General of “Amnesty International” (AI) stated that the human rights organization intends to publish a report describing Israel’s practices against the Palestinians as “apartheid”, despite Israel’s demand that it be withdrawn.
With this report, which is due to be published on Tuesday. Amnesty International joins the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem and Human Rights Watch in accusing Israel of practicing “apartheid” or “apartheid regime” in the Palestinian territories and against its Arab citizens.
Israel preceded the publication with its Foreign Ministry’s rejection of the report on Monday, considering it “absolutely denying (in practice) the right of (Israel) to exist.”
Yesterday, Agnès Callamard, Secretary-General of “Amnesty International”, confirmed to “AFP” the organization’s intention to “publish the report tomorrow.”
She said, “We would have liked to have a conversation with the Minister of Israel Foreign Affairs when we first called him and offered to talk to him about the report. That was in October. He didn’t respond to our offer then. It’s too late now for him to call us and ask us not to publish the report.”
