All to Know About Late Fashion Icon Gloria Vanderbilt

The American Gloria Vanderbilt was a renowned fashion designer, model, actress, painter and writer who died on Monday at the age of 95 after a long battle with stomach cancer.

Anderson Cooper, an anchor and one of Vanderbilt’s four children, reported the death of his mother Gloria Vanderbilt on CNN.

She died on her bed surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born in 1924 in New York city, grew up in France and at age of 2; later her millionaire father died.

At this early age, she was the sole heir of her father and since this time, all media outlets focused on little Gloria.

She suffered a constant disagreement between her mother and her rich aunt regarding her custody.

At age of 17, she got married for the first time, then when she became 21, she officially inherited 4.3 million dollars from her father.

After that, she got porced and married for the second time to a 63 years old man and gave birth to 2 boys.

Fashion Design Journey

At this point, she started her fashion design career and launched her production line that was frequently used in his husband’s movies.

In 1969, she owned The Neiman Marcus Fashion Award and opened her first store that turned out to be a renowned brand called “The Swan”.

At the beginning, she produced specific tight jeans, then her project expanded to include shoes, perfumes and home accessories as well.

Her last marriage was to the writer White Copper and she gave birth to 2 other boys; Carter and Anderson.

Son’s Suicide

Amid her success in the fashion design field, Gloria was smacked by the suicide of her son Carter Cooper; who was suffering from a severe depression.

Her 23-year-old son threw himself from the 14th floor of his home in Manhattan in 1988.

A Mother’s Story

Gloria suffered a major depressive episode after losing her beloved son and wrote her painful story in a book to send strong messages to all parents.

Her book was entitled “ A Mother’s Story” and was published in 1996.

Gloria also had a unique taste in painting and she held some exhibitions to showcase her work.

One of them were in Manchester in 2007 and she displayed 25 canvas besides another event in New York in 2012.

In addition to all the above, she was also a talented actress who appeared in a number of live and filmed television dramas and TV programs.

Anderson Praises Mom

Despite suffering an early family quarrel and her son and 4th husband's death,  Gloria was able to live and create her own life path.

Anderson stated that his mom was always working hard and always believed the best was yet to come.

She was an extraordinary woman, she loved life and created her own rules, she was an absolute wonderful mom, wife and friend.
