Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat Meets with US Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Trade and Development on Mechanisms for Strengthening the World Bank’s Role in Supporting Developing Countries & Implementing the NWFE Program

The Minister of International Cooperation and Governor of Egypt at the World Bank Group Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat met Alexia Latortue, Assistant Secretary of the US Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Trade and Development, as part of her participation in the World Bank & International Monetary Fund (IMF) 2023 Spring Meetings 2023 in Washington, DC.

The meeting discussed details related to the US vision on the World Bank’s evolution roadmap and on maximizing the role of development cooperation in supporting developing countries and emerging economies. The reforms being discussed should reflect the demands of developing countries, especially middle-income and less developed countries, in order to strengthen efforts to withstand the complex challenges facing the global economy especially across the African continent. The meeting also looked into cooperation opportunities in the field of climate action and achieving just financing.

In a another context, they discussed the ongoing efforts in implementing Egypt’s Country Platform for the Nexus of Water, Food and Energy (NWFE Program), which enhances the country's efforts in the green transformation, under the umbrella of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, and the mechanisms for implementing the joint political declaration issued by Egypt, the United States of America and Germany at COP27, in support of the energy pillar within the program.

Under the theme “The Way Forward: Building Resilience and Reshaping Development,” Al-Mashat is participating in the World Bank & IMF Spring Meetings, along with the participation of central bank governors, finance ministers, development partners, senior officials from the private sector, philanthropic organizations and academic, to discuss issues of global concern.
