Al Ahly Seek 9th Win Against Young Africans in CAF Champions League

Al Ahly face Tanzania’s Young Africans today in a crucial Group B match of the CAF Champions League group stage. The match kicks off at 3:00 p.m. local time at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The Egyptian champions currently top the group with seven points, followed by Young Africans with four points. Morocco’s AS FAR and Algeria’s JS Kabylie are tied on two points each.

Al Ahly enter the match aiming to secure their ninth victory against Young Africans in the history of their continental encounters. The two sides have faced each other 13 times across seven rounds in African club competitions, all in the CAF Champions League under both its old and current formats.

Al Ahly have dominated the rivalry, winning eight matches, while Young Africans have recorded only one victory. Four matches ended in draws. Al Ahly players have scored 22 goals in these encounters, conceding just five.

The first meeting between the two clubs took place in the 1982 Round of 16, when Al Ahly won the first leg 5–0 in Cairo before drawing 1–1 in Dar es Salaam. They met again in the 1988 Round of 32, with Al Ahly advancing after a goalless draw away and a 4–0 home win.

In 2009, Al Ahly claimed two victories in the Round of 32, winning 3–0 in Cairo and 1–0 away. Young Africans earned their only win over Al Ahly in 2014 with a 1–0 home victory, but Al Ahly responded with a 1–0 win in Cairo and progressed on penalties.

The teams met again in 2016 in the Round of 16, drawing 1–1 in Tanzania before Al Ahly secured a 2–1 win at home. During the 2023–2024 group stage, the teams drew 1–1 in Dar es Salaam, while Al Ahly won 1–0 in Cairo.

Earlier this season, Al Ahly defeated Young Africans 2–0 in Alexandria, further strengthening their record against the Tanzanian side.
