Al Ahly’s director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has provided an update on the expected transfer of Mamelodi Sundowns' forward Gaston Sirino.
Al Ahly in Pursuit of Sirino
Sirino has been under the watch of The Red Devil's management for a while now, with the Reds intensifying their pursuit of the Uruguayan after Pitso Mosimane took charge of the club.
The 29-year-old had also expressed his desire to leave Mamelodi Sundowns and reunite with Mosimane at African champions Al Ahly.
However, Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has revealed that Sirino’s departure from Sundowns is a decision that can only be made by the South African giants.
“The player’s decision to leave is only up to Mamelodi Sundowns,” Abdel-Hafiz said in a local radio programme.
“Sirino is a great addition to any club, and recruitment in January will be important because the season will be long, especially since the team participates in the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Champions League.
“If Sirino participates with Sundowns in the Champions League, he will be out of Al Ahly’s plans, because it will be difficult to sign a player who will not be eligible to use in the African tournament,” he added.
