Aga Khan IV Funeral Services Take Place in Lisbon

On Saturday, the private services and funeral of the 49th hereditary imam of the Shiite Ismaili Muslim group Aga Khan IV took place in Lisbon.

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Spain's King Juan Carlos attended the ceremony.

Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the mayor of Lisbon were also among the attendees.

The Ismaili religious community said Prince Karim will be buried during a private burial ceremony in Aswan.

The Ismaili Imamat said, in a statement on Thursday, “Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV will be buried in Aswan, southern Egypt, on Sunday, after a funeral ceremony which will be held at the Ismaili Center in the capital, Lisbon, on Saturday, in the presence of community leaders, members of the Portuguese government, and prominent foreign figures.”
