The African Union (AU) force in Somalia, (nicknamed AMISOM), announced on Wednesday that it had begun to withdraw from Somalia, a country located in the Horn of Africa, which suffers from a rebellion, famine, and drought.
Somalia, which is one of the poorest countries in the world, has been facing for more than 15 years a rebellion behind which the Al-Shabaab movement is affiliated with Al-Qaeda, which claims to be seeking to "impose Sharia."
In the face of this movement, the African Union deployed 2007 the "AMISOM" force, which included 20 thousand soldiers, policemen, and civilians from Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
