This Friday, the African Union's (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) will hold a special session in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, to examine the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The purpose of this conference, which South Africa requested in its capacity as the PSC's February chair, will be to discuss Angola's role in the pacification of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The AU and its Peace and Security Council must give the deteriorating situation in the east of the DR Congo their immediate attention.
The PSC will examine whether the AU, the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the United Nations (UN) could play a bigger role in the efforts to put a stop to gun violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
