Dr. Mahmoud Abu Zeid, President of the Arab Water Council, confirmed that approximately 362 million people in the Arab region suffer from water scarcity.

He added that water scarcity has become a "serious and worrisome" security threat in our Arab world, in which the population is growing at a high and rapid rate.

This came during the Arab Water Council's celebration of "World and Arab Water Day", which was held today, Monday, under the title "Accelerating the change to solve the water and sanitation crisis... Preserving water... Preserving life."

Abu Zeid said: What exacerbates the dangers related to water scarcity is that more than half of the renewable water resources in the region originate from outside, which exacerbates tensions and threatens stability and peaceful living.

The President of the Arab Water Council pointed out that about 2 billion people worldwide (representing 26% of the population) still lack access to safe drinking water.

He explained that 4.6 billion people in the world (representing 46% of the population) lack access to safely managed sanitation services.
