Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, spoke about the criteria for the success of the Jeddah summit, which is being held in Saudi Arabia, stating that "there should be no controversial issues, and there should be agreement on decisions and positions while the leaders meet with each other."
Aboul Gheit added during an interview with journalist Ahmed Abu Zeid on Cairo News channel that the annual meeting is a great opportunity to unite and speak openly about problems, and to confirm that the Arabs in this region are the masters of their own destiny.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League continued, "The Arabs are on stage and are addressing their problems, and we are not only talking about political problems, but also economic, social, and cultural developments, all of which contribute to Arab-Arab rapprochement."
He confirmed that what happened in Cairo less than a week ago, inviting Syria to occupy the seat and beginning Arab interaction with Syria, was a good thing, as the Arab League has now become present in the framework that seeks to reach a settlement regarding Libya.
