Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received on Sunday, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of partnership between AL and EU, especially in light of the rapid changes the world is going through, as they discussed recent geopolitical developments in the Middle East, North Africa and Europe.
They also welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement in Sudan, calling on the concerned parties to abide by a permanent cessation of hostilities and to restore calm, stability and peace.
Furthermore, the talks focused on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, as they expressed their concern about the current situation on the Palestinian territories and their commitment to continue joint work towards peace based on the two-state solution.
Moreover, they exchanged views on the next steps for the tripartite efforts made by EU, AL and Saudi Arabia, in order to promote Arab Peace Initiative.
In addition, the discussion touched on issues related to the settlement of conflicts in Yemen, Libya and Syria.
