In a significant development during the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, which comprises 43 countries, Parliament Deputy Speaker Mohamed Abou El-Enein played a pivotal role in steering discussions concerning the Palestinian cause. The assembly, known for addressing key regional issues, saw Abou El-Enein leading an Egyptian parliamentary delegation.

During the session, Abou El-Enein requested a moment of silence to honor the victims from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, an act observed by representatives from France, Spain, Italy, and various Arab nations. The focus of the meetings prominently centered on the Palestinian issue, underscoring its importance on the regional agenda.

A contentious point arose when Hungary and some European nations proposed to classify Hamas as a terrorist organization, a move staunchly opposed by Abou El-Enein.

His position was supported by Rashid Talbi Alami, the Moroccan Parliament Speaker and President of the Parliamentary Assembly for the Mediterranean. This collective stance resulted in the final parliamentary declaration excluding any reference to Hamas as a terrorist entity, marking a diplomatic victory for Egypt's stance.

Ahmed Moussa, a media personality, highlighted Abou El-Enein's influential role and his adeptness in persuading fellow parliamentarians, who hold his opinions in high regard. Moussa also expressed his pleasure at being in Morocco and commended the solidarity among the nations of the region.

This event underscores the complexities of regional politics and the significant role parliamentary diplomacy plays in shaping international perspectives on contentious issues.
