Culture Min. Honors 9 Artistic Icons during Egyptian Theater Day

Dr. Enas Abdel-Dayem, Minister of Culture, honored 9 artistic figures from theatrical icons, on the occasion of the Egyptian Theater Day. The event was held on the National Theater for the first time within the activities of Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater.

It is worthy of note that the honored icons included: the critic Dr. Ali Al-Ra'i - received by his son Ahmed, the writer Dr. Mohsen Moselhy- received by his widow, designer Dr. Hussein El-Ezaby - received by his son Muhammad, the great director Abdel-Rahman Al-Shafei- received by his son Ahmed, director Hamdy Tolba, the great director Fahmy El-Khouly, director Hussein Mahmoud -received by his brother, the great artist Raja Hussein and the great director Khaled Jalal.

Abdel Dayem said that the art of theater is one of the flames of enlightenment and it is a unique way to develop awareness and conscience.

The minister added that the state theater has achieved, during the last few years, many goals despite Coronavirus crisis and it needs to be protected and safeguarded.

The minister affirmed that the celebration of the Egyptian Theater Day began 9 years ago and stopped for years to be regained today with the celebration organized by the Ministry Culture due to the ministry belief of its role in encouraging the creative momentum.

She emphasized that honoring Egyptian symbols is a motivation for new generations to continue the movement of Egyptian leadership.

Besides, she hailed the souls of the theater martyrs who carried the message of creativity with all sincerity.

In the same context, Dr. Alaa Abdel Aziz, head of the 27th edition of Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater, thanked the Minister of Culture for her effort to re-celebrate the Egyptian Theater Day.

Dr. Abdel Aziz said that the theater martyrs, who passed away on this day, left an unwritten commandment in which they urge the fans of theater to continue and preserve its prosperity and enrichment, noting that it is a good occasion to honor the names of the martyrs and to celebrate the living symbols and pioneers.

It is worthy of note that the ceremonies were attended by a group of playwrights, artists and critics, presented by the two artists Sahar Al Sayegh and Sameh Hussein, directed by Islam Imam.

Furthermore, the ceremonies included presentation of a performance entitled “The Egyptian Theater Day” written by Dr. Mustafa Selim and directed by Nasser Abdel Moneim. The performance shedded light on the history of Egyptian theater, the local specialized theatrical festivals, its most famous and immortal works.
