Local sources and residents have reported a devastating incident in central Yemen this Saturday evening, where 9 passengers lost their lives in a bus fire on a main road leading to the capital, Sana'a.
The incident occurred in a high-altitude mountainous area near Naqeel Samarah, about 2500 meters above sea level.
According to sources, the bus caught fire, engulfing the passenger vehicle and resulting in the charring of most of the victims' bodies, including women and children.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the cause of the fire might have been due to the bus owner loading a quantity of gasoline in a rear compartment close to the passengers, leading to a catastrophic blaze that claimed nearly all passengers onboard.
The Samarah area is known for its dangerous mountainous roads and high congestion of travelers, making it prone to frequent accidents due to sharp turns, deteriorating asphalt, and narrow passages.
Recent days have seen an increase in accidents exacerbated by fog and heavy rainfall, which severely limits visibility during the evening hours.
