9 Chinese Killed in Armed Attack in Central Africa

Nine Chinese were killed, in an armed attack on a gold exploitation site belonging to the Chinese mineral company "Golden Coast", in the city of Chimbolo in Central Africa.

Abel Matipata, the mayor of the nearby town of Bambari reported that the attack on the Chimbolo gold mine began around 5 a.m. when the gunmen overpowered the site’s guards and opened fire.

He added that the mining site’s launch had taken place just days earlier.

It is noteworthy that the Chinese company officially opened its doors on the site on March 14, 2022.

Matipata also expressed his regret and sadness at the occurrence of such an attack, saying, "The situation is sad and we all regret it."

Local authorities said they were pursuing the attackers but refused to comment. Residents noted that the violence was the latest incident to undermine confidence in the security forces.
